Readings on Housing Ganga Building Chronicles by Prasad Shetty / Annotated by Prasad Shetty

Ganga Building Chronicles

This is a semi-fictional narrative of a chawl and of Mumbai. Various slices from popular stories, family histories, archives, policy documents, fieldwork, architectural studies, ethnographies and deep interviews are stitched together as a montage to write this piece which opens up the history of inhabiting a city. The piece could be useful as a narrative on the idea of property in cities, its history, its sociality, and its various cultural and economic dimensions; or for those interested in issues related to the politics of housing and home-making; or for architectural historians interested in evolution of form and spatiality. If nothing, it could be an interesting bedtime story.
